Opera UTEP presents encore performances of its world premiere opera THE FOX AND THE COOKIE by Maria Thompson Corley at the El Paso Museum of Art in Museum Connect on Saturday, April 1, at 2:30 PM. The 35-minute musical drama will be performed by Opera UTEP students with Dr. Esequiel Meza, Jr. at the piano. The performers will tell the audience a little about this magical art form of opera, and teach them a short chorus to sing along with the characters at the end.
Loosely based on Aesop’s fables, the opera tells of Grandma and Grandpa who are entertaining their grandchild with fables of the Fox’s trickery. In the end, the family and the animals whom the fox tricked confront the fox about his behavior, and all enjoy Grandma’s cookies, together. The story explores themes of bullying, kindness, forgiveness, and sharing.
